difference Between hr and cr sheet

hR SHEET AND CR SHEET

"HR" and "CR" Sheets are two different types of steel sheets used in various applications HR Stand for "Hot Rolled" while CR Stand for "cold rolled."

Hot rolling refers to processing done with heat whereas, cold rolling refers to process done at or near room temperature

Although change in temperature effect overall performance and applications.
We should not be confused with formal specification and grade of Steel which related to scientific research compostion and performance rating steels of different grades and specifications can be either hot rolled or cold rolled including both basic carbon ,steels and other alloy Steel.
It may seems obvious but some types of Steel are better suited for certain applications knowing which to use can avoid over spending on raw material it can also save time and money

difference

The main difference between HR and CR sheet is of the process.

HR SHEET

Hot Rolled sheets are produced by heating steel slabs above recrystallization temperature making them easier to shape and form

CR SHEET

CR sheets are made at room temperature through a process called cold rolling.Process is carried out at below recrystallization temperature

HR SHEET

Pressure applied is less in HR sheet because it undergoes a hot rolling process which result in decrease in pressure.

CR SHEET

High Pressure Applied because the process involved passing the sheet through rollers at room temperature, which exerts more pressure on the sheet.

HR SHEET

Due to the hot rolling process, hr sheet retain a low level of residual stress
and may exhibit a lower level of precision in term of thickness and flatness.

CR SHEET

"Residual Stresses Are Generated" During the cold rolling the steel is compressed and deformed, causing internal stress to develop with in the sheet.

HR SHEET

HR sheet have a rough surface texture and may have mill scale or layer of oxidized on the surface. This texture is beneficial for certain application where enhanced grip is required. So the rough surface of HR sheet serves as a purpose.

CR SHEET

Process resulting smoother and more precise sheets with tighter dimension tolerance. Commonly used in application that require a high quality finish Such as automobile, manufacturing and construction.

let’s understand it in simple words:-

HR SHEET
Imagine, you have a big, hot lump of metal. You squash it between rollers in high temperature until it becomes a long, flat sheet. That’s basically how HR sheets are made.  Because they’re rolled out when the metal is hot, they end up having a layer of scale on the surface, kind of like a protective coating. This scale helps stop the metal from getting rusty.
CR SHEET
Imagine you have a big block of steel, but instead of heating it up, you keep it at room temperature. Then, you squeeze it between rollers to make it thinner and longer. That’s how CR sheets are made – without the heat.
